While you sip on your easy-to-brew Butterbeer, I highly recommend that you read the renowned tales of Beedle the Bard! (click here*) Though, if you haven't read the original Harry Potter heptalogy, please do that first. Don't even take another breath until you have read it, actually. Only kidding! Whether or not you've read the series, everyone should read the tales and make this magically delicious drink!! Wait a second, I'm thinking of Leprechauns, not Wizards.... *If you want a hard copy, buy it here or at your nearest Barnes & Noble

Do you recognize the words of the title? They come from the poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes. It was written, quite uncoincidentally, during the Harlem Renaissance. This incredibly prolific period lasted through the Roaring Twenties and was centered in New York City. Many of the most celebrated pieces of African-American literature were produced at this time, and it is important to recognize the great writers responsible... so take a moment to watch the following video on one such writer!! As many of you may know, our Book Drive will begin next week, and Agoura Book Club is proud to partner with Re-Book It in this endeavor! Re-Book It is an incredible organization provided by The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles. They seek to provide low-cost books and raise funds for local libraries, charities, hospitals, and schools. A portion of the books in every donation or the funds raised from every donation goes back to the community in a charitable, constructive way.
The "Baby Got Book" Drive will last from February 5th to Valentine's Day. All donations should be given to your English Class and the class that donates the most will earn a Build-Your-Own-Sundae Party!! Be sure to announce this cleverly named Book Drive to your English Classes, and look in the back of your closets for any books that you would be willing to donate... Your community and Agoura Book Club thanks you for your participation!!! Need some ideas for your holiday wishlist this year? Or need a present for a fellow reader?
